JANUARY 23rd, 7:30 pm
Austad Auditorium

$15/$12

Women's vocal ensemble Kitka draws on the centuries-old tradition of eastern European female vocal music. Internationally praised for its mastery of Balkan vocal techniques, Kitka has exposed millions to the haunting beauty of this unique repertoire, astounding audiences with lush harmonies, asymmetric rhythms and stunning dissonances.

“Only a Slavic folk tune can express bliss in a minor key, agony in jaunty dance rhythms. KITKA delivered with a combination of exquisite technique and pure, unflinching emotion. If life must hurt, it should always feel this good.”                                        —Grant Menzies, THE OREGONIAN

In Memorium

Melisa Reasner McGuireThis concert is supported by Richard and Kaye Woltman in memory of their daughter, Melisa Reasner McGuire.
When Melisa Reasner McGuire lost her battle with cancer at the age of 37, she left her family, friends and business associates with a , deep sense of loss, and at the same time one of gratitude for having known someone who was able to combine ambition, intelligence and business savvy with grace, integrity and honesty. Her memory is honored by two performances on this year’s Cultural Affairs season. The beautiful music of Chanticleer and Kitka is made possible through a generous donation from the Melisa Reasner McGuire Memorial Donor Advised Fund at the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation.
